One important thing you can do, however, is train them to distinguish between daytime and night time sleeping. Do this by first creating a comfortable and relaxing space around them.

Allow them to sleep in a lighted environment with natural sounds during the day. And at night, make sure it’s dark and quiet.

There are countless means to encourage a newborn to sleep, one of them being self-soothing. This happens when a child performs or learns certain things to keep them calm and help with their sleeping. It can be anything from touching their face or sucking on their thumb.

A sleep trainer provides a subtle signal to the baby that he or she should be sleeping soon. If used properly, this can become an effective sleep trigger. Sleep triggers can be music, bath time, or even reading time.

Learn to Identify Your Baby’s Sleeping Cues

When a baby is tired, they often show signs. Make sure to pay close attention to this as it may signal that they are prepared to take a nap or sleep at night. A few things to notice include a baby losing interest in playing, yawning, having tantrums, being fussy or cranky, among many others.
